Advertisement of dietary supplements – actions of OCCP
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection took further actions in connection with the advertising of dietary supplements. The President of the OCCP reminds that advertisement cannot ascribe any medical properties to dietary supplements . Advertisements which in the opinion of the President of the OCCP are raising doubts, through e.g. suggesting a rapid improvement of health or losing weight and taking advantage of the authority of a pharmacist or a school counselor.
OCCP reminded that it has recently pointed out the need of implementation of a code of good practices by the industry of dietary supplements. The proposal which was adopted by manufacturers, do not meet the expectations of the OCCP, especially in the context of lack of severe penalties for violation of its rules. In the opinion of the OCCP, one of the penalty that should be applied is the publication of the decisions of the Disciplinary Court, with indication of the name of the supplement and its manufacturer.
