PASMI vs. Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber on restraining non-pharmacy sales of medicines

Polish Association of Self Medication Industry has submitted a statement in which it opposes restraining non-pharmacy sales of OTC medicines, which is supported by Polish Pharmaceutical Chamber. PASMI objected especially against medicine cabinets with temperature controllers, which were proposed by NIA.

PASMI points out that non-pharmacy sales of medicines is significant for people living in the countryside as it is often the only way for them to find medicines in their neighborhood.

The Association comes up with its own ideas to improve non-pharmacy market, major of which is the proposition to set up a register of all non-pharmacy places where OTC medicines are sold and a register of all firms that distribute OTC medicines  via non-pharmacy channel. Expenses of such a register shall be borne by firms, which put medicines in non-pharmacy channels.

Moreover, PASMI proposes that non-pharmacy sales shall be conducted using only packages for medicines, which contain maximum dosage of 2 days therapy. PASMI also suggests that medicines on display regulations should be tightened up in order to prevent children from having access to them.
