The Ministry of Health announced legalization and reimbursement of medicinal marijuana

On 8th March, the Ministry of Health announced on its website information regarding reimbursement of medicines based on cannabis indica. From 4th March, the Minister of Health issues an individual reimbursement decision of a medicine based on cannabis indica. 

The medical indication for granting the reimbursement is drug resistant  epilepsy. The reason for the Minister’s of Health decision was research conducted by the Children’s Memorial Health Institute, which showed that after experimental treatment using medicinal marijuana, state of health of more than half of patients with a drug resistant epilepsy significantly improved.

The Deputy of Minister of Health, Krzysztof Łanda explained, that “with respect to relatively not the highest costs of treatment – because it is about 1 thousand PLN per month – we can afford the reimbursement and if we can help the children in a very difficult state of health, we should do it.”
